DIDEROT (Denis), [YVON (Claude)], [PRADES (Jean-Martin de)]. Apologie de Monsieur l'abbé de Prades In Amsterdam, s.n., 1752. Three parts in 1 vol. in-8, XLIV-86-206 p., [1] blank f., 92 p., [1] blank f., [2] f. (title, warning), 108 p., contemporary fawn half-basane, smooth and ornate spine, brown morocco title-piece, red edges (defects including split at tail of lower jaw, worn corners; some soiling and stains, hole without missing on title-page of the Suite, some reading marks in red pencil in margins).
Important collection containing a collective defence of the abbé de Prades, author of a thesis condemned by the Sorbonne and the archbishop of Paris, and which was one of the pretexts for condemning in its turn the Encyclopédie of Diderot and d'Alembert.
Copy containing the 3rd part written by Diderot in the original edition, at the fictitious address of Berlin (a false title may be missing; the next printing will offer a different composition and will be at the address of Amsterdam), which is entitled: "Suite de l'apologie d M. l'abbé de Prades, ou Réponse à l'instruction pastorale de M. l'évêque d'Auxerre".
In addition, we find, bound in the continuation: [BROTIER]. Examen de l'Apologie de monsieur l'abbé de Prades. S.l., s.n., 1753. 74 p.
