Mortier, 1740. 8 pages, [16] f., 368 p., [10] f., front, contemporary tan calf, spine with five raised bands, red morocco title-piece, ornamented caissons, gilt arms in centre of boards, edges red (headpieces uncovered, upper jaw split at head, corners dull, scuffing and light stains on boards; angular spotting in margins of some ff., sporadic russeting and browning).
"Highly regarded work" (Caillet I, 1771). Edition prepared by Johann Christian Fischer, master of philosophy at the Jena Academy, where Buddaeus taught theology. It is dedicated to Ernst August, Duke of Saxe-Weimar, whose engraved portrait appears on the frontispiece, and his arms at the head of the dedication.
Provenance: Marie-Joseph Savalette de Buchelay (d. 1764), farmer-general, collector, who built up an important library and natural history cabinet (arms stamped on the boards); Rumard (?), manuscript bookplate dated 1805. Old annotations on one endpaper and in the margin of the title.
