INLAY ELEMENT SHOWING A MALE PROFILE Egypt, New Kingdom, 19th dynasty Yellow jasper White coral and 18 ct gold base Dim_ 5,8 x 7,5 cm Provenance Former Altounian collection acquired in the 60s, French private collection, base made in 1991 Figure a male profile turned to the right. The upper part of the face is missing here as it was probably to be completed by another inlay element representing the rest of the face. The facial features are fine and finely carved. The base of the neck is long and ends in a rounded shape, again suggesting an insert in another element - probably a torso. This type of inlay was used in the decoration of some New Kingdom tombs. A NEW-KINGDOM YELLOW JASPER INLAID FIGURING A PROFILE, DYNASTY 19TH 2 x 3 in. High. Figuring a masculine profile, turned to the right. The upper part of the head absent here was probably made of a different inlay stone. The nose looks thin and straight, the lips finely sculpted. The neck is long and ending in a rounded shape whoch suggest, the bust (made with an other onlay stone) was inserted at this junction. Very rare.
