Gilded brass octagonal plate, engraved with palms and rocaille on an engraved background, centred with the compass, and mobile parts in patinated brass.
The reverse side of the compass showing a list of eight European cities and their latitude, and the inscription "Elev. Pol" (elevations at the poles), and the signature by initials: L.T.M.
About 1750-1765.

Some wear to the patina and scratches.
