2-door, 4-seat coupe body style Front engine, 8-cylinder V-twin Displacement 4,719 cm3 Power 290 hp Top speed 265 km/h Mileage 65,604 km on the clock Serial number AM116 948 (body number 1441) The magnificent V8-powered two-seater Ghibli coupe, designed by Giugiaro and unveiled in 1966 to take over from the 5000 GT, needed to be backed up by a more modern 2+2 version than the already aging Mexico. This was the Maserati Indy, unveiled at the Carrozzeria Vignale stand in Turin in October 1968. The design of the Maserati Indy is due to Virginio Vairo and Delio Meinardi who designed it for Vignale, which built it from 1969. The Indy has a characteristic profile with a high rear volume and a wide flat front bonnet equipped, like the Ghibli, with double retractable headlights. The bumper is also found above the double grille, as on the Mistral. The sporty interior and dashboard are also luxurious, as evidenced by the wood trim and the height-adjustable wood-rimmed steering wheel. The large center console houses the radio and power window controls. The interior and dashboard will undergo several changes over the generations. Like the Mexico and the Ghibli, the Indy is powered by a four-cam V8 engine with four Weber dual-barrel carburetors. It could be combined with an optional Borg-Warner three-speed automatic transmission, but it was the five-speed manual gearbox that would be the most popular, as the automatic transmissions of the time were not nearly as efficient as the manuals. At the end of 1969, its 4.2-liter displacement and 260 hp were deemed a bit too low for its high weight, and the following year it adopted the Quattroporte's 290 hp 4.7-liter V8, which finally allowed it to exceed the fateful 250 km/h mark. An even more powerful version, the Indy 4900, was launched in 1972, equipped with the 4.9-litre V8 borrowed from the Ghibli SS. Its 320 hp gave the Indy top-notch performance. From 1973 onwards, only this 4900 version was included in the catalogue. The total production will be 1,104 units between 1969 and 1975. This Maserati Indy with matching numbers, which has its Maserati Classiche certificate, has been fully restored and is in good general condition, with no impact or scratches in its burgundy metallic livery. The beige leather interior is original and is in good condition, with no tears or discoloration. The dashboard is functional. The 4.7 liter V8 works perfectly, as does the 5 speed ZF manual transmission. The car is equipped with a stainless steel exhaust. The brake discs and tires are in good condition. A great opportunity to acquire this original and luxurious Maserati, true to the original and authentic, of which only a few thousand were produced.
