Fastback coupe body, 2+2 seats Front engine, 8 cylinders in V Displacement 4,735 cm3 (289) Power output 203 hp Top speed 185 km/h Mileage 67,222 miles Serial number 7R02C135527 Unveiled in April 1964, right in the middle of the year, the Ford Mustang defined a new type of American automobile, the pony car, more sophisticated and exciting than the simple compact, like the Ford Falcon whose underpinnings it took. To seduce the post-war baby-boom generation, it was given a sober and sporty European style. It was powered by a 2.8-liter/101-hp inline-six or a 4.2-liter/164-hp or 4.7-liter/210-hp V8 engine - the famous 289 cubic inches - combined with a 3-speed automatic or manual transmission in one of three body configurations, hardtop coupe, fastback coupe or convertible. Importantly for the image, there was no Mustang sedan. Its success was phenomenal. On the evening of its presentation, April 17, 1964, it had recorded 22,000 firm orders. By July, it had passed the 100,000 mark, and in less than six months, it had broken even, selling a million units in the first 24 months. The 1966 model year would be the last of the first generation platform and styling, as the 1967 model used a Ford Fairlane platform, larger than the Falcon's, which allowed it to accommodate larger engine blocks. Coming from the United States, this Mustang fastback is structurally very sound, it has never been damaged or modified in any way and retains all its original attributes, including its paint job redone about ten years ago. It is equipped with the famous 4.7 litre 289 ci engine - but it is not a Cobra version, contrary to what its head cover might suggest - and it is equipped with an automatic transmission. The car is running and was restarted when it arrived from the United States, but it will be wise to give it a good overhaul before taking it on the road again. Mustangs in their original condition are rare, many have been modified at second hand and have lost their authenticity.
