Commentary: "Today, Emile Bernard, Gauguin and Filiger take their place in the privileged ranks of the "Masters". Bernard, gifted more than any other with an inventive mind, capable of the most ambitious traits of originality, had the brilliant idea, after having immersed himself in the heart of the Celtic soul, of painting Brittany under its most decorative aspects, by varnishing in a single mystical harmony, the characters and the landscapes.
