Behind a Moorish facade with friezes and columns inspired by moucharabiehs, located at 56 rue des Mathurins, were hidden Turkish baths. Built in 1876 by the architects William Klein and Albert Duclos, these modern thermal baths housed spring water pools, hammam, hydrotherapy, hairdressing salons and tea rooms. At a time when the Orient was fantasized about, the greatest personalities met around this luxurious decor: great politicians, journalists, painters, composers. When we open this notebook, we plunge into this worldly, intellectual and cultivated Paris.
