"Death of Saint Ignatius of Loyola"
Oil on panel. 25 x 52 cm.
The scene shows the moment at which Saint Ignatius died. Around his bed are other members of the Society of Jesus, which was founded by Saint Ignatius, accompanying him.
This theme has been widely depicted, along with other passages of the life of the Jesuit in Novo Hispanic art. Among other important artists, Miguel Cabrera also did a painting of the scene which is kept at the Museo Nacional del Virreinato in Mexico.
