VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GTI 16S OETTINGER Brand : Volkswagen Model : Golf GTI 16S Oettinger Date of registration : 1982 Mileage on the odometer: 78 190 km The model - The Golf GTI is the mother ofall GTIs, the one that established the concept of compact cars with sporty performance. It appeared on September11, 1975 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, where it was one of the major attractions on the Volkswagen stand. It was presented as "The fastest Volkswagen of all time". - The Oettinger Golf GTI 16Swas not manufactured in France, nor did it bear a French logo, but the holy of holies of the Golf GTI was indeed a French exclusive. In 1981, the French subsidiary of Volkswagen decided to be 4 years ahead of the parent company and to offer a 16 valves version to their customers. VAG France therefore turned to the tuner Oettinger. The challenge was clear: transform the 8-valve into a 16-valve version in order to offer torque, power and muscle to the basic GTI. - This meantworking on the 1600cc engine. Oettinger, which gave its name to this special series, designed a specific cylinder head made of light alloy. It houses two overhead camshafts. The latter have the particularity of turning in opposite directions. The power output is increased to 136 hp compared to 110 hp for the "classic" 8-valve version. - In order to reinforce theoverall impression, the car's look has also been worked on to give it a sportier feel. There is a BBS body kit, fender flares, specific ATS running boards and wheels and "16 valves" logos everywhere to show that this is no ordinary Golf. This special version was only offered in 2 colours: white and charcoal grey decorated with a border along the length of each wing. - ·On the other hand, the interior has only been slightly modified with only the initials on the steering wheel, meters and additional handles. - This special version remainedin the French catalogue from 1981 to 1983. The car - The car we present forsale is a Golf GTI 16s Oettinger from 1982. It is one of the 1,250 produced. - It dates from February 1982 andits odometer shows only 78,190 km. It is in the hands of its current owner since 2004. - Its general condition is good, both on the outside where we only notice two scratches and a paint chip on the driver's side step. - The interior is in verygood condition. The road test confirms this condition. - Many examplesmay have disappeared, because, with its precision mechanics, some examples did not survive. This is a charcoal grey car, a rarer colour than the white of the time. - The car was purchased by the current owner in 2004 during the course of restoration. The owner has completed the restoration of the car, but unfortunately does not have a file of invoices. - Here is the work he has done since he has had the car: paint completely redone to its original shade in 2005, fuel line done recently (new), new timing, new engine rebuilt in the early 2000s.
