It contains the suite of 45 emblems illustrating the famous work of the Jesuit Hugo, Pia desideria, engraved on copper by the Dutch artist Boëtius Adams Bolswert (1580 ? - 1633). Drouet de Maupertuis began his career in finance; ruined, he retired to the Bourbonnais, to the abbey of Sept-Fons. Binding rubbed, corners dulled.
