ABRANTÈS (Laure Permon duchess of) L. A. S. to a colonel. S. l. n. d. 7 p. in-8. The Duchess of Abrantès (1784-1838), wife of General Junot and a woman of letters addresses here a long letter in the tone of confidence, in which she says she suffers from the separation and ingratitude of her lover; she testifies, however, to her quite platonic love for the colonel: "[...] What must you say about me you accuse me I fear [...]. Oh my friend, my excellent friend, my very excellent friend, you whose mind and heart understood mine so well! It is impossible to imagine a more charming affair than ours. It had all the greenness of a young friendship without having after it the almost inevitable disgust that always follows long liaisons [...]. It was a fraternal friendship and a friendship of science [...]. If I could tell you all that I am made to suffer [...]. "About her former lover: "This man is a miserable snake that I have nourished in my bosom. He has come to take away the friendship of my children [...]. Until now he has been content to create disunity. Now it is discord [...]. I have many projects in mind. Among others, there is one - but let's not talk about it - what would you say, dear friend, of a trip to Sardinia [...]. "
