CAZOTTE Jacques. Le Diable amoureux. Paris, Bernard Grasset, 1921; small in-4, bound in contemporary pinkish-grey morocco, on the upper board a set of fillets in smoke black enhanced by gilt fillets forming a stylized portico, smooth spine with gilt lettering, triple gilt inner fillet, entirely untrimmed, cover and spine (Inv. Pierre Legrain. Fec. René Kieffer). Edition decorated with 27 drawings by Maxime Dethomas engraved on wood, three of them out of text. One of 5 copies on grey baroque laid paper, accompanied by a separate suite of engravings on Japan paper, signed by Maxime Dethomas and by the engraver Emile Gasperini. BINDING BY PIERRE LEGRAIN executed by René Kieffer. Not seen by the authors of the Pierre Legrain bookbinder corpus, it seems however to be mentioned at number 129 of their directory. Slight rubbing to one jaw.
