LACLOS Pierre Choderlos de. The Dangerous Liaisons, or Letters collected in a society & published for the instruction of some others. Amsterdam ; Paris, Durand Neveu, 1782 ; 4 volumes in two in-12, contemporary binding marbled calf, spines gilt decorated, slipcase, upper headpieces repaired. TRUE SECOND EDITION, THE ONLY ONE CORRECTED BY THE AUTHOR. Recomposed typographically immediately after the first, it is given as "very rare" by Max Brun ("Bibliographie des éditions des Liaisons dangereuses portant le millésime 1782", Bruxelles, 1963, n° 2 of his list). With the same number of quires and pages as the first edition, printed on the same paper with the same typeface, it has served as a model for all reprints. A few small paper defects and scattered spotting, slightly rubbed jaws; the bindings strictly of the period remain nevertheless pleasant.
