BOILEAU Nicolas. OEuvres. Paris, David ; Durand, 1747, 5 vol. in-8, late 18th century bindings in red morocco, gilt lace framing the boards, five-ribbed spine decorated with gilt motifs, inner lace and gilt edges.
The most complete edition, published by Charles-Hugues de Saint-Marc. Engraved portrait after Hyacinthe Rigaud (here in double state), 5 title fleurons, 38 vignettes after Eisen, 22 culs-de-lampe and 6 out-of-text figures by Cochin fils or unsigned.
A first edition copy, with the vignette with animals placed at the head of the ninth satire and not of the eighth.
Copy of Francois XII de la Rochefoucauld, duc de Liancourt with bookplate. Apparently not listed in the La Rochefoucauld catalogue of the Château de La Roche-Guyon (1987) but at this sale some books were grouped in lots and then difficult to relocate.
"Highly sought after edition" (Cohen 167-168). - Spine slightly sunned, slight spotting on the spines and the edges, otherwise a fine copy.
