Ntadi" sculpture in classical soapstone from the Matadi region.
It represents a rider on his mount with a seated female figure at his side, probably a representation of a couple of ancestors.
The Mintadi (guardians) or Ntadi in the singular are sculptures used to decorate and protect the graves of the notables of the Kongo kingdom.
1st half of the 20th century.
