ORIGINAL DRAWINGS BY LOBEL-RICHE] CHAMBLEY, Le Sire de. The Legend of the Sexes. Hysterical and Profane Poems. Brussels [Amsterdam], private edition, revised by the author, 1893. 1 vol. in-8. Full green calf, first cover decorated with a mosaic vine leaf, spine with four nerves, author and title gilt, date on tail, embroidered silk lining in a frame of garnet morocco scrolls and gilt fillets with special free iron (phallus and vulva), embroidered silk endpapers, double marbled paper endpapers, gilt edges on witnesses, bordered slipcase. [CHARLES LANOË]. This "epic of the lower abdomen" was published in 1893 in Amsterdam by A. Brancart and printed on laid paper by F. Avonstond. The red fleuron on the title is a vignette by Félicien Rops. The original edition dates from 1883. A unique copy illustrated with 16 free original drawings, charcoal and red chalk, by Alméry Lobel-Riche (1870-1950), of which five off-text on vellum, one off-text tracing and ten drawings in the text. Of an erotic nature, they seem to have been done at different periods. The copy has unfortunately been bound without the leaf on pages 83 - 84 which corresponds to the poem "Ballade des pucelages morts". Pia, 766 - Dutel, 444. Spine faded.
