DAZE (1962) Pay-Per-View Acrylic and aerosol on canvas Signed, titled and dated Dec. 2015 on back 40,5 x 51 cm DAZE began painting on NYC subway trains in the late 1970s. He is one of the historical writers. His style is a mix of comic book characters and lettering. Apart from painting on walls and trains, DAZE started painting on canvas in the 1980s and gained international recognition. Throughout his career, he has consciously sought diversity in artistic collaborations. Trained at the High School of Art Design, he is as much concerned with form as he is with the writing itself. He is constantly experimenting and his paintings vary around a particular figuration, often disquieting, at the center of a studied composition, serving as a backdrop to his name. He frequents the underground scene at the Mudd Club in NYC where he sells his first work, alongside JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT and KEITH HARING. A year later he exhibited at Fashion Moda and in 1983 at the famous Sydney Janis gallery. From then on, he had a series of exhibitions, from Paris to Beijing, and worked in Germany alongside CRASH and LEE QUINONES. His works have found their place in the contemporary art collections of the greatest museums as well as in the private collections of ERIC CLAPTON or MADONNA. Throughout his career he has consciously sought diversity in artistic collaborations. He has painted alongside writers such as CRASH, TKID170, MITCH77, ZEPHYR, COPE2, DEZ, SKEME, DONDI WHITE and CAZ 2.
