Attributed to Jean-Balthazar de LA TRAVERSE - circa 1790 Rinaldi Pavilion seen from the Neva and from the gardens. Pair of watercolors on paper, pasted and preserved in a gilded frame. Bears under the marie-louise a handwritten inscription in French identifying the place. (Some foxing) Sight: 23 x 34 cm. Frame: 36 cm x 46.5 cm. In 1743, Baron Sergei Grigorievich Stroganoff acquired a house, its outbuildings and a garden in front of the Kammeny Island in St. Petersburg (located between the Great and the Little Neva) and the Krestovka River. In 1754, Baron Stroganoff commissioned the Italian architect Antonio Rinaldi (1710-1794) to build a pleasure pavilion on the banks of the Neva, known as the Rinaldi Pavilion.
