In 1743, Baron Sergei Grigorievich Stroganoff acquired a house, its outbuildings and a garden in front of the Kammeny Island in St. Petersburg (located between the Great and the Little Neva) and the Krestovka River. In 1754, Baron Stroganoff commissioned the Italian architect Antonio Rinaldi (1710-1794) to build a pleasure pavilion on the banks of the Neva, known as the Rinaldi Pavilion.
