Rare and beautiful pistol of the type Bodyguard...

Rare and beautiful pistol of the type Bodyguard of Christian II of Saxony. Circa 1600. Iron wheel lock with scroll and shell decoration in brass. Octagonal barrel. Cal. 13 mm. Rounded muzzle end. On the thunderbolt, sober decoration of stars and scrolls, punch "H" and "S." Walnut frame inlaid with decorative bone motifs. From the pear-shaped pommel with hollow quarters underlined by a fine ribbon to the lock and decorated with rosettes of various sizes. Tailstock decorated with a winged cornucopia. On the right of the lock the rosettes return to the end of the barrel, the mouth and the head of the rod in sage leaves. On the left side the same small rosettes but with appearance of a large snail and a stylized dolphin. Hollow iron trigger guard. Total length: 87 cm and the barrel alone 62, 5 cm. Very good condition. (Missing the small pin at the end of the barrel). Hans Stockmann recorded as arms manufacturer in Dresden from 1590 to 1633 is known to have worked on the weapons of the Bodyguards of which the museum of the city is proud to have a hundred specimens which carry his signature.
