Testing. Amsterdam, Antoine Michiels, 1659. 3 volumes in-12, red morocco, triple gold fillet, ornate spine, fillets on the cups, inner lace, gold edges on marbling (Trautz-Bauzonnet). Elegant portable edition, much sought-after and "worthy by its beautiful execution to take its place in the Elzevirian collection", according to Willems.
It comes out of the presses of François Foppens in Brussels, who, as usual, published part of the print run under his name and the rest at the address of Antoine Michiels.
A portrait of Montaigne adorns the title-frontispiece engraved by Peeter Clouwet.
A very beautiful copy perfectly drawn up by Trautz-Bauzonnet.
Large margins, it measures 152 mm high.
From the libraries of Baron Roger Portalis (1889, no. 54) and Alfred Lindeboom (1925, no. 173), with their ex-libris.
Sayce & Maskell, n°33 - Tchemerzine, IV, 905 - Willems, n°1982.
