The frontispiece by Jacques de Fornazeris represents an extraordinary pendant set with cut gemstones bearing the effigy of twenty-one ancestors of Marie de Medici.
The book contains an account of the exceptional life of the Medici and the careers of its most famous members. It was republished in 1620 under the title Histoire généalogique de la maison des Médicis.
