Gabriel Martin was born in Rouen on May 25, 1842. He was a student of Gustave Morin at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. A brilliant student, the city granted him a scholarship to perfect his technique and he joined the numerous students of Alexandre Cabanel at the Ecole nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He exhibited regularly in several Salons. Gabriel Martin died in Rouen on January 12, 1922.
