He was a student of Gustave Morin at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. A brilliant student, the city granted him a scholarship to perfect his technique and he joined the numerous students of Alexandre Cabanel at the Ecole nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
