32 MARTINET (François-Nicolas). Fifteen plates engraved and coloured by Martinet: 1: The Little Loon (38), 2: the male gull (12), 3: the crested gull, 4: the woodcock (30), 5: the bittern (217), 6: the raven, 7: the curlew (81), 8: wall creeper (184), 9: male and female heron (105), 10: wild goose (91), 11: male and female torcol (120?), 12: the great spotted loon; 13: male water hen, 14: the corncrake or king quail (119), 15: the grey lapwing (we put the primitive classification number in brackets when it is readable). These 15 plates are perhaps taken from "Histoire des oiseaux (1790-1796); they were put together in a paperback album already at the end of the 18th c. Several plates have been removed from this album, so that descriptive texts written on the back of some plates do not correspond to the order of the engravings. When this album was compiled, the engravings were given new numbers of a good cm. The 1st engraving is detached, some are trimmed very short, some are glued to the heel of another removed. Traces of use.
