DES ROCHES (J.-B.), History of Dannemarc, before and since the establishment of the monarchy. Amsterdam, Jansons à Waesberge, 1730 (vols. 1-6) and Amsterdam, Jean Pauli, 1740 (vol. 7), portrait, [18]-CIV-[6]-478-[47]-1 white, folding card; [8]-575-[31]-1 white; [6]-530-[30]; [6]-547-[36]-1 white; [6]-446-[42] ; [8]-490-36, and [12]-387-[12]-1 white, full contemporary brown calf, decorated spine, title piece (some hooks in the binding, of which a small one is missing from the 1st box of the 1st vol.). Handwritten mention in the upper margin of the title: "The cte A. L. [?] of Hemricourt 1813. Good copy of this first edition illustrated with a frontispiece representing Frederic IV of Denmark (engraved and drawn by La Cave), a folding map of Scandinavia and title vignettes. Title pages in red and black. A table of contents at the end of each volume facilitates research. Jean-Baptiste Blaise Des Roches de Parthenay, born in La Rochelle in 1690 and died in Copenhagen in 1766, is a French historian and translator. Rare complete and in good condition.
