Hans Pellar Vienna 1886 - 1971 Vienna Summer Fantasy Oil on canvas 63 x 60 cm signed & dated 1912 Hanns Pellar was born in Vienna in 1886 and died in 1971 ibid. He was an Austrian painter and illustrator. His artistic education started in 1905 at the Vienna Academy. Only one year later he moved to Munich and became a pupil of Franz von Stuck who "chose him as a painter to be especially encouraged" and supported him intensively. Hans Pellar completed this inspiring and fruitful study in 1908 and as a freelance artist he subsequently created oil paintings and watercolours, which he entitled "Theatrical Rococo" and "Fairy Tales". Along the way he also worked as an illustrator for the magazines "Die Lustigen Blätter" and "Simplizissimus". In Munich, Hans Pellar belonged to the prominent, historical protagonists who set the tone for the Prince Regent era with their romantic art, which was closely tied to Art Nouveau. In 1911, the painter moved to Darmstadt to the artists' colony there, after the Grand Duke of Hesse became aware of him and called him in. Until 1913 Hans Pellar was entrusted with murals in the music rooms of the Herzberg villas. In Darmstadt, the brush virtuoso also achieved his artistic and social breakthrough. He remained in the Hessian city of art until 1917 and portrayed numerous prominent people such as the family of the Grand Duke and ladies of the aristocracy and upper class. Our painting Summer Fantasy was created in 1912 during his time in Darmstadt. It is of high elegance and shows his romantic, partly rococo style very impressively. Works by Hans Pellar from this period of his career today fetch up to € 100,000 on the international art market.
