HEINER - "Heiner's Sketchbook".
Ca 1870-1874. In-8 Italian style, contemporary aubergine chagrin boards, boards decorated with a large frame in embossed leather in floral style (Contemporary boards). (Partially unstained, wear to corners and edges, boards are shaky). title and 27 ff. + 1 flyleaf of drawings in black pencil, blotting paper, some highlights in coloured pencil. picturesque views of buildings and landscapes, especially rural ones, in the Netherlands, some of them animated with figures: house by a river in Leerdam, Zaltbommel (belfries, view of the Waal with a boat...), ruins in Brielle, farms, wells, windmill, etc. The artist, a Dutch painter, seems to be an illustrious unknown. Provenance: from Jamblinne (ms. note signed: "Sketchbook of the painter Heiner bought in December 1916 in The Hague at the sale of his studio"). Some yellowed pages, some spotting.
