Small six-leaf folding screen Japan, Edo period, 19th century Ink, coloured pigments and gold leaf on paper. 91 x 44 cm x 6 leaves. Decoration of fans floating on a river. The subject is an allusion to the custom of throwing used summer fans into the river to celebrate the arrival of cooler autumn weather. Small accidents and wear and tear.
