Hu-shaped vase
China, Qing Dynasty, ca 19° century
Carved red lacquer. H. 32 cm
The surface is richly decorated with peonies in the foliage enclosing cartouches presenting landscapes in which characters, probably immortals, move around. Two lion masks form handles on either side of the col.
