Palanquin" hooks
Khmer art ca 12°-13° centuries
Copper alloy. H. 20 cm
Superb pair of hooks, each decorated with a powerful representation of Garuda. The use of such elements to support the bedding of high-ranking figures, mainly ladies of quality, is attested to in Angkor reliefs and the accounts of Chinese travellers during the Angkorian period.
