Male divinity Khmer art (Cambodia - Laos - Thailand) Angkor Wat style ca 12th century Sandstone. H. 111 cm Important male deity with two arms, represented standing. His waist is encircled by a finely pleated sampot held in place by a belt with a beaded border, decorated with the classic double row of ovals. On the front, the double anchor drop descends to the lower limit of the garment, thus marking the will of the artists of the period to return to a stylistic classicism echoing the great styles of the 10th century. A classic draped pocket covers the left thigh and the textile is tied in a bow tie at the loins. The head with braided hair is topped by a high bun held at its base by a ring, and adorned with a classic gold-plated tiara held at the back by a finely executed bow. A large necklace is equally distributed between the chest and the back. Most of the stylistic elements and the squaring of the shoulders are characteristic of the Angkor Wat style. Accidents, missing pieces and visible restorations.
