ISPAHAN in silk (Iran), circa 1965/70. Dimensions: 240 x 145cm. Technical characteristics: Silk velvet on silk foundations. Density of 900,000 knots in one square metre. A salmon-pink field serves as a background for this delicate carpet. Two deer and two waders stand at the feet of a flowered vase and two shrubs, which support a tangle of stems and foliage with flowers, each one more sumptuous than the other. Birds flutter in the middle of this maze. A sky-blue diamond-shaped medallion with arabesques and a stylised lantern enrich the whole. The vaults of the mihrab are decorated with flowers and subtly delimited by sky-blue volutes. Four counterborders with garlands of multicoloured flowers frame the main ivory with leafy, flowery stems. Pistachio green border.
