Silk GHOUM (Iran), Shah's time, circa 1975. Dimensions: 217 x 138cm. Technical characteristics: Silk velvet on silk foundations. Density of 640,000 knots in one square meter.
The pointed door of the mihrab of this carpet opens onto the Garden of Eden. The cherry field is home to a luxuriant and varied flora where a flowering basin and a hanging flower are featured. Figurative vines support climbing plants. The columns of the mihrab are decorated with floral interlacing. The vaults are also decorated with flowers. The main cream-coloured border, highlighted with floral garlands, is decorated with cartouches bearing the inscriptions Abjad and 'kufic' medallions.
