1936 CORD 810 SEDAN

Chassis number: FB1056 Lycoming V8 engine 4730 cc 125 hp Maximum speed: 150 km/h Errett Lobban Cord created Cord Automobile shortly before the stock market crash of 1929, the fi rm that bears his name complementing the two illustrious existing brands of the Indiana-based group, Auburn and Duesenberg, founded at the turn of the century and bought by Cord in the 1920s. Presented at the New York Motor Show in November 1935, the Cord 810 succeeded the L-29 model, from which it took over the technical originality of traction. Lighter and more compact than its predecessor, it adopts a modern styling with removable headlights integrated into the body and a Fastback rear that was very much in vogue at the time. The Lycoming fi rm, well known for its production of aircraft engines, provides a 125-horsepower side-valve V8 engine coupled to a 4-speed gearbox with steering wheel-mounted controls. Between traction, independent suspension wheels and hydraulic brakes on all four wheels, it offers techniques that are well ahead of their time. Its dashboard is inspired by the aviation of the 1930s. Available as a sedan or convertible, the Cord 810, which will evolve into the 812 available with a compressor and known for its large chrome exhaust outlets, will be produced in about 3,000 units in all, before the group ceases operations in 1937. In good general condition with a cream-coloured paint showing some cracks on the left front wing and a blue cloth interior of excellent workmanship, this Cord 810 Sedan is to be put back on the road and is sold without technical control. A certificate of the F.F.V.E. as well as a duplicate of the car registration document are in progress.
