L.A.S. "Degas", Tuesday [February 1891?], to Alfred LENOIR; 2 pages petit in-8 (small slit in the central fold). [The sculptor Alfred LENOIR (1850-1920), friend of Degas, had just lost, on February 17, his father, the architect and archaeologist Albert LENOIR (1801-1891)]. "You expected it every day, my poor Lenoir, but it was hard all the same. I shake your hand very affectionately, and your wife's too. If I could not go on that sad day, it is because I really could not. When I see you I'll tell you why. You'll think of some tomb, being like Bartholomew willingly marbled. Alas! it must be confessed that death lends much."
