Remarkable unpublished fragment of his diary, written at the time of the days of June 48. "1848. Today, June 16, it rained, I had taken shelter under a carriage entrance, Boulevard Poissonnière. An old woman, selling canes and umbrellas, was talking with a man, young and moustachioed, wearing a national guard kepi and a blouse. The old woman said: - It can't go on like this. I haven't made ten francs for a month, we're dying of hunger, but we can't subscribe to it, but if it lasts, we'll have to go and ask those who have some. - If it lasts, you'll have to go and ask those who have some. Four days later, in front of the Constituent Assembly, Hugo gave his famous speech "against the national workshops".
