TOURNAI ET TERVUEREN Covered sugar bowl in soft porcelain with polychrome decoration of cartouches decorated with oriental characters surrounded by gold scrolls. The grip is in the shape of an acorn. Inscription on the reverse side "TRE VUR". Second half of the 18th century. H: 11.5 cm The TRE VUR brand is probably attributable to Tervueren, where Charles de Lorraine had his own porcelain factory, whose workshop was run by the painter Georg-Christoph Lindemann. The painter, who was born in Dresden (1735-1780), had previously worked at Nymphenburg from 1758 to 1760, in Ludwigsburg from 1760 to 1761, in Höchst in 1762, in Paris around 1765 and then in Weesp. In June 1767, he was hired by Charles of Lorraine as a draughtsman and to run a small porcelain factory for his private use in the outbuildings of Tervueren Castle. If Lindemann tried his hand at porcelain manufacture, he mainly decorated white porcelain bought from the Tournai manufactory. The production was short-lived as the factory did not survive the death of Lindemann and Charles of Lorraine in 1780. Biblio. Dumortier (Cl.) and Habets (P.).
