"As early as 1948, Picasso expressed the wish to see his ceramics éditées : 'Picasso's dearest wish was that his pottery could be reproduced industrially as one draws water-forte : 'I would like to find in every market, whether in a village in Brittany or elsewhere, a woman going to the fountain to fetch water with one of my pots. But in our society, if I put a ceramic on sale at a fair, people will speculate on it. So, I'll give it away in museums all over the place. Picasso was quick to act on his aspirations. In the first place, it seems that the published pieces were made as early as the beginning of 1949. The first works - 'services' and 'a dish decorated with a dove' - were presented at the new gallery in the Madoura studio in July of that year."
