HISPANO-MAURESQUE FLAT in lustre and cobalt blue pottery dish, decorated with an eagle, floral field and stylised flowers in relief Glaze jumps and restorations Spain, probably Valencia, XVIe siècle A Hispano-Moresque luster and cobalt blue pottery dish; Spain, probably Valencia, 16th century; losses of enamel and restored 45 CM - 17 3/4 IN. PROVENANCE Collection Georges and Suzanne Ramié, Vallauris. Then by descent. WORK IN REPORT Our dish is to be compared, for the floral decoration enhanced with blue of its wing, with the one preserved at the Metropolitan Museum of New York under the n° 29.100.140 (legacy Mme H. O. Havemeyer, 1929). "In 1957 Picasso commissioned from the Madoura workshop a shape called the 'Spanish dish', inspired by a Mozarabic model of a round dish with a wide curved marli and a rounded centre, of which Georges Ramié has a copy."
