The maréchal des logis is a non-commissioned officer of the Gendarmerie nationale in use within the Corps de soutien technique et administratif de la Gendarmerie nationale (CSTAGN) and the corps des gendarmes adjoints volontaires (GAV). This rank is also present in the so-called Cavalry Armed Forces, within the Army. It corresponds to the rank of sergeant or second master in the other armed forces. The rank of marshal of lodgings is not to be confused with that of gendarme (or guard for the Republican Guard), which are ranks of non-commissioned officer of gendarmerie only. Unlike the rank of maréchal des logis, the gendarme is situated between the rank of sergeant and chief sergeant.
