Alfred Arndt, 'House of the People' chair and armchair, 1925-27, H. 83 x 40.5 x 47.5 cm; H. 88.5 x 59.5 x 55 cm. Made in the Thuringian Forest, c. 2014. Wood, stained dark. Marked: manufacturer's embossing with numbering 22 or 26, respectively., The Bauhaus member Alfred Arndt designed a furniture programme for the House of the People in Probstzella in the Thuringian Forest: chair, chair with armrests, table and cupboard. They were used in the restaurant, in the Red Hall, in reading rooms and lounges, as well as in the hotel rooms of the Bauhaus Hotel. On behalf of the collection of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, detailed replicas were created in 2013/2014 by a traditional carpentry in the Thuringian Forest. With the greatest fidelity to the original, Arndt's designs are again being produced exclusively by hand by this joinery. Every piece that leaves the workshop is licensed, numbered and stamped with the Arndt logo.
