The photograph captures a train accident at the Montparnasse station in Paris on October 22, 1895. The train from Granville to Paris overran the buffer stop, crashed through the wall of the railway station hall and the locomotive fell on the street. Several people were injured and one woman died. The locomotive was driven by Guillaume-Marie Pellerin.
