Enclosed is the stamped invoice of the painter Guillemet in Gauthier-Lathuille, dated 14 February 1878.
Antoine Guillemet, a painter of landscapes - mainly of Paris and the Cotentin region - is a friend of the Impressionists whom he met in their youth at the Swiss Academy. Well introduced to the salon, he was the one who helped his friends more than once to contest Manet's work by contributing to his obtaining a second medal at the 1881 salon, which finally exonerated him from the entrance examination for the following years. Manet showed his affection by choosing to place Guillemet among the four figures in his masterpiece Le Balcon, 1868, Musée d'Orsay. The latter is also one of the familiars who frequent the Père Lathuille inn.
