Gérard BAUËR (Le Vésinet 1888-1967) French essayist and critic, natural grandson of Alexandre Dumas père.
Correspondence addressed throughout 1922 and 1923 to his friend, the novelist Odette Arnaud. She will publish several novels such as Mer Caraïbe in 1934 or Pêcheurs de rêves in 1936. She also wrote a biography on the painter Pierre Subleyras (1699-1749). She later became Romain Gary's press agent.
The correspondence, which proves the intimacy of the two characters and the often ambiguous spirit of Bauër, consists of 8 autograph letters, all signed by Bauër and addressed from his Parisian residence, rue de Bourgogne. The letters are generally in his number and are accompanied by a single envelope.
