An allegory, of day and night, represented by a cherub brandishing a torch standing on his chariot, moving in clouds, pulled by two butterflies. The bottom is at night illustrated by a cartouche representing a woman butterfly asleep on a sofa. The base rests on four spinning top legs with applied decoration of greyhounds and winged women. Enamelled dial with "fleur de lysée" hands. Bronze chased and gilded with mercury. Paris. Around 1800. Very nice condition. With key and pendulum. Dimensions : 46 x 33 x 15 cm.
