Collection of magazines "L'Art et la Mode", from 1893 to 1964, 1879 magazines in 101 volumes. L'Art de la mode (1880-1882) In August 1880 is announced in Paris the publication of a luxurious magazine of 24 pages entitled L'Art et la mode, monthly magazine of elegance: the project is initiated by Ernest Hoschedé with the complicity of the illustrator Henri de Montaut (who will sign H. de Hem) and the writer Marie Biard known as "Étincelle", who was the first editor-in-chief. The publication is presented in the form of monthly and numbered booklets. The editorial office is located at 18 Boulevard Montmartre, in a building bearing the periodical's trademark on its façade. From September to November 1882, the publication is suspended: it will resume under a slightly modified title. L'Art et la mode (1882-1889) Sarah Bernhardt et ses costumes de scène, drawing by Marie de Solar (1894, BNF). For reasons unknown, perhaps linked to a bankruptcy filing, the magazine changes its name and address. Become L'Art et la mode, newspaper of the worldly life, it passes under the direction of Henri de Montaut. The head office is at 8 rue Halévy. It is sometimes called "the newspaper of the fashion in all things", or the "monthly review of elegance". Montaut directed this support until his death in 1889. L'Art et la mode (1890-1922) Dress of veil, crinoline and taffeta (April 1916). Composition of A. Soulié (1921, Rijksmuseum collection). After Montaut, it is Charles Chantel who takes the direction7 ; around 1907, the head office moves to 35 rue Boissy-d'Anglas9,10. In 1903, the Gil Blas announces to offer to its readers the refunding of their subscription to L'Art et la mode, namely 60 francs per annum and gives the list of the collaborators to this magazine: one notes among others the names of Louise Abbema, Madeleine Lemaire, Alfons Mucha12 , Fantin-Latour for the painters, and of Georges Ohnet, Marcel Prévost or Pierre Maël for the written contributions.
