FÜLÖP ÖTVÖS BECK (1873-1945) (ALSO KNOWN AS FÜLÖP ÖDÖN BECK) - COLLECTION JÓZSEF VÁGÓ (1877-1947) THEN PIERRE VAGO (1910-2002) Szittya lovas (Scythian horseman) also known as Szittya nyilas (Scythian archer), the model designed around [1913-14], our work exhibited at The Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco in 1915 under the number 988. Sculpture. Proof in gilt bronze. Antique cast iron, circa 1913-14 Original base in mahogany moiré veneer. Oxydations on the headdress and right shoulder, stitching throughout the gilding. Bears, below the bronze terrace, the antique label with the handwritten inscriptions BECK O. FULOP - Ancient Hungarian Archer - 988 and the stamp in violet ink San Franciskoi Kiállitás 1915 (San Francisco Exhibition 1915). Bronze alone: 22 x 24 x 7.5 cm Base included: 30 x 24 x 7.5 cm Provenance : - Collection József Vágó (1877-1947). Architect, figure of the Secession movement in Hungary. - Collection Pierre Vago (1910-2002) (Pierre Vágó, known as), son of the previous one. Architect, editor-in-chief of L'Architecture d'Aujourd'hui from 1932 to 1947, then president of the Editorial Committee of this publication, member of the UAM, founder of the International Union of Architects (U.I.A.) in 1948. Museum : A proof of our sculpture model is kept at the Magyar Nemzeti Galéria (Hungarian National Gallery) in Budapest under the inventory number 4700.
