Censer with a lid surmounted by a hermaphrodite deity Guanacaste culture, Nicoya region, Nicaragua/Costa Rica border Period V-Period VI, 600-1100 A.D. H. 66 cm - D. 33 cm Light brown, slightly oxidized ceramic. Semi-globular incense burner mounted on a ring base decorated on the sides of a stylized jaguar. The bell-shaped lid supports an anthropo-zoomorphic deity and two long-tailed lizards on the sides of the vessel. Numerous ornamental pellets attached to the lid.
