Two anthropomorphic funeral urns Region of Rio Magdalena, Colombia, circa 1000 A.D. Brown ceramic with shell inclusions. Two globular-shaped urns with narrow necks surmounted by two dome-shaped caps, each decorated with a figure (cacique) sitting in an offering attitude. H. 65.5 cm and 67.5 cm Accidents Provenance: Bernard Dulon Gallery, Paris These urns were used during the rites of second funerals, where the bones of the deceased were placed in these large containers before being covered with anthropomorphic lids.
